Meditation: Descendants of Lord Jesus

Descendants of Lord Jesus

Bible Reference: Isaiah 53:10

Descendants of the Lord Jesus

Luke 3:23 says that Jesus was about 30 years of age when his ministry started. He sacrificed His life for us after a ministry of about 3 years and was not married. He died without leaving any descendents.

Over 700 years ago, Isaiah prophesied that this would be so. It says in Isaiah 58:8 that, "Unjustly condemned, he was led away. No one cared that he died without descendants, that his life was cut short in midstream."

But see God's great plan: When Jesus offered His life for us, God raised Him from the dead as our Lord. Because of God's great plan Jesus who died without descendents, now has many descendants. Bible says about this in Isaiah 53:10 that, " But it was the Lord's good plan to crush him and cause him grief. Yet when his life is made an offering for sin, he will have many descendants."

This is where Satan got all his calculations wrong. When Satan saw that Jesus could not be swayed by temptation, he worked in the hearts and minds of many people to oppose the Lord and to crucify him. But God did not allow Jesus to stay pinned down by death and raised him to life.

Jesus became even more difficult to handle after he was died because the Bible says that until his resurrection day, Jesus ministered to the spirits of those who were already dead and set them free from Satan's grip (Refer 1 Peter 4:6 and 1 Peter 3:15-20). To make matters worse, as per God's great plan, Jesus now has many descendants as said in Isaiah  53:10. We are the Lord's children who are out to bind this 'strong' Satan and to free the people who are oppressed by him (Mathew 12:29).

This too was prophesied over 900 years before Christ in Psalm 127:4,5 which says "Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. He will not be put to shame when he confronts the enemies at the gate".

This is how we are to the Lord Jesus today. We are "born" to the Lord when we received our baptism, and praise be to God that we fill the Lord's quiver.

Yes, Jesus has His quiver full of children like you and me. We are sharpened by our suffering and persecution, and now are lethal to Satan who is the enemy of God's kingdom. Let us all know this purpose, calling, and live as the Lord's children in this world. May the Lord Jesus empower us all with His Holy Spirit, power, and authority. We will emerge victorious where ever he sends us. Amen.
